    Why Citations are Important

    Why cite your sources.........

    1. You are giving credit to the author of the original work, who provided you with the information or idea.
    2. Citing your sources re-inforces the legitimacy of your opinions and ideas.
    3. You are demonstrating how much care you took to locate, explore, and understand the information available on your topic.
    4. You are giving others the opportunity to go to your original source to find out more and extend their own learning.
    5. Having a Works Cited list means that you can return to your sources at any stage for further insight or information.
    6. Citing your sources helps you to avoid plagiarism.
    7. You are demonstrating respect, honesty and integrity, as well as your skill as a researcher.
    8. Providing a Works Cited list, and in-text citations is a requirement for any work you do!
